Zhiwa Ling Hotel, Paro, Bhutan

Most of the travellers I've met do not place emphasis on the type of hotels they stay in, presuming they would be out and about on tour most times.  A top star hotel usually requires a top-up over and above the tour package quoted.

There are a few hotels in Bhutan though, that to me, is actually a must-do for any tourists to Bhutan.

One of these hotels that I would not want my loved ones to miss would be Zhiwa Ling.  It is worth paying for at least a night's stay for the ambience and the experience.  Based on my previous stays, the food is good as well. This is also the hotel I recommended to honeymoon couples as the layout of the cottage room is resort-like warm and cosy.

Much effort has gone into its architecture and design.  The place is hugh, and these pictures are just a small cross-section.

This is just a sampling. We haven't covered a lot of territory in Zhiwa Ling - the restaurants, the spa, and other areas.

Most important, the kids love it!

They haven't been back to their Fatherland since they left in 2000.

It's a testimony to Zhiwa Ling that this was their first stay upon arrival into Bhutan after a long 12 years away from Bhutan.

In fact, as they subsequently moved around Bhutan, they were to use Zhiwa Ling as a benchmark to compare the other stays against.  The water in Zhiwa Ling is clean and clear.  Not so in many other hotels.  The bath mixer is user-friendly and water stays hot and constant throughout shower.  Not so in some hotels where the mixing goes on due to the water turning from too hot to too cold midway.  The rooms are big and layout is one of the best.  The food is good.  The internet works, and was free.  In others, they told us they have internet in the room, but once we check in, there is no internet accessible from the room itself.

You won't really want to travel all the way to Bhutan, to miss out on the Zhiwa Ling experience, do you?

Contact Bhutan Club if you need more details, which we couldn't cover in this short writeout.
