Taj Tashi, Thimphu, Bhutan

A trip to Bhutan isn't complete without a stay in the capital city Thimphu.

And a stay in the capital city Thimphu, isn't complete without a stay at the Taj Tashi.

Packed as our schedule was, we were determined to spend at least a night there.

Along with our earlier stay at Zhiwa Ling, Paro, this stay vacation at Taj Tashi really adds to the flavour of the trip.  The 2 hotels are good.  They both are different.  They both complement one another quite well if variety is the spice of your life.

Unlike Zhiwa Ling, the internet at Taj Tasji is chargeable, although a free block is provided if you would surf at the business centre instead of inside the room.

At both hotels, breakfasts with a wide array of servings, are included.

The Taj Tashi is a good place to network.  We happen to meet friends and associates we haven't met for quite many years.  This is basically a corporate clientele type hotel, yet it is most suitable for families or anyone who appreciates good class and good service.

Taj Tashi is the only place where we popped by into the courtyard, and 'Poof!' - an impromptu Bhutanese Cultural Dance immediately appeared in front of us! Much to our amazement, and a wonderful bonus for anyone who happened to miss cultural dance performance along their journey to Bhutan.

Special thanks to Amar Deep Chhetri (Asst Manager Reservation), Ravi Nischal (GM) and his team of associates and staff, who treated us like royalty.

Our point-and-shoot camera doesn't do justice to the place, so you'd want to personally check-in to this experience during your next trip to Thimphu.

The cultural dance is an incredible guest itinerary provided by Taj Tashi. There is a library closeby, a spa, and much to explore.  One day's stay is insufficient.  However, our schedule was short and we couldn't extend.

As we were checking out, we saw the royal bodyguards outside, and were informed that His Majesty would be visiting, meeting up with some VIPs there.

I hesitated whether to re-introduce boyz with their king.

The last time they met was when big boy was six and His Majesty was then crown prince.  This being their first trip back to their fatherland after an absence of 12 years, much has changed.  The then crown prince dotted on the boy then.  But now that the boy is 18, would His Majesty still recall who this boy is, and who I am?  12 years is a long, long time.

We decided not to wait for His Majesty to appear.  Out of respect, we didn't want to waylay the King, and perhaps, even startle with the awkward moment of zero recall.

So with much regret, we could only grab our bags and leave, bidding His Majesty, goodbye in our hearts, and prayers of goodwill.
